The Aussie version of open-world car-jacking simulator Grand Theft Auto IV has been altered from the initial version the rest of the world gets to play. We already knew that but just how different is it?
Well, according to someone who’s played both versions in Australia, Rockstar has removed the animated hooker actions and the pools of blood that form beneath slain victims. The game still has the splashing and splatters of blood as normal. But pools? Well, pools of blood are just too much for those down under.
It’s unclear how this is affecting sales of Australian copies by Australian retailers but we know that those in the know in Aussieland are just importing the real version from the UK or the US. So, really the sanctions have hurt their own economy, while only mildly keeping the populace more conservative. Congratulations.

The always-controversial attorney and outspoken activist Jack Thompson finds himself in hot water today, after a Florida Bar judge has recommended that he be found guilty of 27 separate charges of misconduct.
The vast majority of the charges are in relation to two videogame-related cases that Thompson argued before courts in Alabama and Florida, both of which had to do with Rockstar games Grand Theft Auto and Bully.
GamePolitics reports that Judge Dava Tunis’ recommendations will now pass to the Florida Supreme Court, who will issue the final rulings. Tunis’ complete report is due to the Supremes by September 2, but the next step of the process is a disciplinary hearing to be held before Judge Tunis next month.
Some of the examples of misconduct that Thompson (pictured above in the film Moral Kombat) is charged with include “knowingly making a false statement of material fact or law to a tribunal” and “engaging in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation.”

In rumor news that initially seems a bit far fetched but eventually turns into a rumor that sort of makes sense, Realtime Worlds’ recently purchased All Points Bulletin MMO may be up for sale with the targeted purchaser being none other than Rockstar. Yup …
Rumor has it that Realtime may have secured the APB license not only to distribute it as they wish, but possibly to re-package it and sell it to Rockstar as GTA Online. Thus far, Realtime has downplayed the whole idea of an APB re-sell, but did confirm that one reason for their recent APB acquisition was “to look for another partner; someone else who may well be interested and have the infrastructure [to support it].” Interesting stuff. Seeing that GTAIV is all the hawtness right now and from what we’ve seen of APB, a re-worked GTA Online MMO may not be all that bad of an idea. But only time will tell.
