Considering its success, Rock Band 2 shouldn’t come as a surprise. An anonymous tipster sent Joystiq a few conceptual images used in a survey about a potential sequel to Harmonix’s peripheral party game. Previous surveys revealed Rock Band 2 may feature an enhanced World Tour mode, with the ability to record music videos and hire staff members. Battle of the Bands and drum trainer modes are also rumored to be included in a sequel.

While nothing concrete has been confirmed by Harmonix, these early leaks seem quite plausible. We’re hoping that, unlike Guitar Hero, DLC from the original Rock Band can be safely played in any future iterations of the franchise. If not, we’re certain there’s going to be a lot of angry rockers out there.

d2768_metallica_killemall Guitar Hero: Metallica Doesnt Affect Rock Bands PlansWhen Activision stealth announced the release of Guitar Hero: Metallica via an SEC filing, fears of artist exclusivity gripped Rock Band fans. After all, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick had referred to Aerosmith as “proprietary” to the Guitar Hero format earlier this year.

We contacted Activision to find out if Metallica getting the titular treatment in a new Guitar Hero game meant that they’d be locked in to that particular brand. “We do not have further comment beyond what was in the SEC filing” read a corporate statement. No help there.

Harmonix reps, on the other hand, helped to calm our fears, if just a bit.

news-sm Guitar Hero World Tour to have Drum Boss BattlesGuitar Hero World Tour to have Drum Boss Battles

56f2e_barker_boss_battle Guitar Hero World Tour to have Drum Boss BattlesA new trailer was released yesterday for Guitar Hero World Tour. This trailer focused on the new drum kit and had a few celebrity drummers testing out the new kit and giving their opinion.

The drummers were Stewart Copeland from the Police, Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and most notably Travis Barker from Blink 182.

We say ‘most notably’ because, in the trailer, Barker can be seen wearing a motion capture suit. A motion capture suit is used in video games to capture movements for characters within in game. In the Guitar Hero series, motion capture of musicians has been limited almost exclusively to those who will be a ‘boss’.

While the video did not expressly state that Barker would be a boss in the game, Barker did mention that he was using the drums to compose. Given the mention of composition and that he was wearing a mo-cap suit, we’re going to go out on a limb and say that Guitar Hero World Tour will not only feature ‘Drum Boss Battles’, but that Travis Barker will be one of the bosses.

3ac34_425_psp-angel-single-sm GHSkinz opens up new line of pricey PSP skins
GHSkinz, a company that specifically makes skins for Guitar Hero and Rock Band instruments is now opening up a line of skins for handheld systems. The PSP is included, but unfortunately has the most ridiculously expensive ones at $10.95 a pop. That’s more than double the price that their Nintendo DS and iPod Touch lines go for.

That’s not to say that their products are not any good; the designs are quite beautiful — just have a look. It just makes us scratch our heads as to why the PSP gets screwed over with such a large bill. Anyway, that’s expensive in our minds but ultimately that’s up to you if you’re willing to pay the price.
