The Aussie version of open-world car-jacking simulator Grand Theft Auto IV has been altered from the initial version the rest of the world gets to play. We already knew that but just how different is it?
Well, according to someone who’s played both versions in Australia, Rockstar has removed the animated hooker actions and the pools of blood that form beneath slain victims. The game still has the splashing and splatters of blood as normal. But pools? Well, pools of blood are just too much for those down under.
It’s unclear how this is affecting sales of Australian copies by Australian retailers but we know that those in the know in Aussieland are just importing the real version from the UK or the US. So, really the sanctions have hurt their own economy, while only mildly keeping the populace more conservative. Congratulations.

Glenn Beck, host of CNN’s The Glenn Beck Program, has added his name to the list of concerned citizens against the violence and sexual content found in Grand Theft Auto IV. In a recent interview with Dr. Cheryl Olson, co-author of Grand Theft Childhood, Beck lashed out with indifference toward gaming and then proceeded to ‘dis’ bloggers.
“I will tell you that all these video gamers … they’re bloggers, as well as video gamers - they’re writing all kinds of stuff about me [that] I’m the enemy now of video gamers. I could care less about video games. Video game bloggers? They’re losers …”
For someone who could care less about gaming he sure does have his share of opinions on the subject. Watch as Beck wastes Dr. Olson’s time by ranting about his personal life as an internet joke when he realizes the good doctor wouldn’t be able to add to his sound-byte reel of uninformed gaming hatred.
Our favorite part? Beck cashing in on the Grand Theft Auto IV hatred for ratings and advertising dollars and then proceed to accuse the ‘game industry’ of giving GTAIV an M-Rating purely for monetary reasons. Say it with us now. Irony.

Sony and Rockstar sure have been mum about that PS3 GTA IV problems. The game’s been locking up during play, making it, well, unplayable for some players, but not all. And hey, with six million copies sold in the first week, there’s bound to be issues with some copies! Bad issues. Today, a Sony source confirmed that a multiplayer patch was being planned. Apparently it will reduce the load times and hangs some have been seen! No word on a single player GTA IV for PS3 patch or even for the Xbox 360 version which has been experiencing similar issues. This probably means one thing: Users who are fucked are still fucked.
GTA IV Patch [Eurogamer]
A pretty blonde mob princess, bound and gagged, is taken kicking and screaming raw-throated curses out of the trunk of the player’s car. Tied to a chair in the hideout of the gangsters who hold her hostage, the player’s asked to snap a photo to send to her Mafia father.
She screams muffled protests through the rag between her lips, the image on the camera phone screen reflecting her tormented, terrified eyes. As the player centers her face in the frame, she offers a desperate moan, a wracked sob.
“Smile for daddy,” the player tells her.
